Ross County Christian Academy is housed on the campus of Brookside Church at 2215 Egypt Pike in Chillicothe. The phone number is 740-772-4532. School tours including classroom visits are available and encouraged.
RCCA is a non-public charter school. As such, it meets or exceeds all the curricular, facility, staffing, governmental, and policy requirements set by the Ohio Department of Education. All credits earned at RCCA must be recognized by any other private or public school in the state. In addition, the school receives funding that is used to hire support staff and buy textbooks and supplies.
The school offers financial aide to needy families based on demonstrated need. The aide is limited and contingent upon the gifts of generous individuals, churches and businesses.
The mandated class size in the preschool is 12:1. In the elementary school the average class size is 15:1.
The academically based extra-curricular programs are science fairs, spelling bee, geography bee, and The National Junior Honor Society. Private and group music lessons are available to students in guitar, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The school fielded T-ball and track teams last year. A recently hired athletic director is busy planning golf, cross-country and tennis teams.
As a faith-based academy, RCCA integrates biblical principles and teaching throughout the school day and into every subject matter. Textbooks in science and social studies are published by Bob Jones University Press, a Christian publisher. All the material in every subject area is presented from the Christian perspective. Each teacher leads her class in a daily age appropriate Bible study. Weekly chapels led by a local supporting church provide opportunities for praise and worship. Every employee is a believer and is active in their local church.
RCCA does not require students to wear a uniform, but there is a dress code. Students wear navy or tan pants or shorts and a solid color polo top.
All teachers are certified to teach in their subject areas by the Ohio Department of Education. Most of the staff members currently hold or are working on advanced degrees.
RCCA students score on the average 19.9% above national norms as measured by the Stanford 10 Achievement Test, however, testing is not a major consideration in curriculum development. The staff and faculty of the school view children and content in a much more holistic fashion. The scope and sequence of instruction is designed to be global and comprehensive rather than narrow and focused exclusively on testing outcomes.
Supporters can assist the school with volunteer work, in-kind gifts, or cash donations. In addition, the school stands ready to partner with individuals who would like to leave a lasting legacy through estate planning that includes RCCA. A particular need at this time is for a building that would house all the operations of the school. Finally, prayer support is a vital need. God’s blessing is the most important component of a successful school!
